Jenni Brandon (b. 1977) is a composer of solo, vocal, choral, chamber, and orchestral music. Described as, “some of the most imaginative, ingratiating recent chamber music for winds”(Steve Turpin, Morning Musicale, WBST), her style is often influenced by nature and her surroundings. Jenni’s compositions have been commissioned and performed in venues across the world, including Carnegie Hall. Some of the ensembles or organizations that have commissioned or performed her works include Voices of Ascension, The Singers, the Yale Glee Club, Conundrum, Sistrum, The Young New Yorkers’ Chorus, Sister Singers Network, the California Association of Professional Music Teachers, the Musical Arts Quintet, Definiens, and Central4 Piano Quartet. She has been a composer in residence with the Vientos Trio in Los Angeles and is a frequent featured guest composer at universities. Jenni is also the Artistic Director and a founding member of Synchromy, a Los Angeles composer’s collective that presents concerts of new music throughout Southern California.
As a conductor she has lead both church and community choirs, and she currently leads The Concert Singers, the oldest independent choir in Los Angeles. Besides leading this ensemble’s regular season, she appears as a guest conductor in a variety of venues across Southern California and the country. Recent guest conducting appearances include conducting her commissioned work A Universal Dream with the Sister Singers Network during the GALA festival in Denver in July 2012. In March 2013 she conducted the West Coast premiere of A Shipwreck Opera at the University of Southern California with music by John B Hedges and libretto by author Aimee Bender.
Jenni is also active as a mezzo-soprano, making choral appearances with the Boston Pops, Pacific Chorale, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and at the Hollywood Bowl.
Her award-winning music has been featured at festivals, conferences, and on radio broadcasts, and her works are published by Boosey & Hawkes, Santa Barbara Music Publishing, Graphite Publishing, and Jenni Brandon Music. Her music can be found on various recordings, including recent recordings by the Musical Arts Quintet, Yale Glee Club, Definiens, and Sistrum – Lansing, Michigan’s women’s choir, oboist Rebecca Henderson of UT Austin, flutist Jenni Olson, as well as the debut CD of oboist Laura Medisky on Centaur Records. Upcoming recordings to include her works include the Sundance Trio of Utah and Conundrum of Cincinnati. Jenni’s first self-produced CD, Songs of California: Music for Winds and Piano, was released in 2010 and was nominated for the 10th Independent Music Awards. Jenni received her B.M. Composition from West Chester University, M.M. Composition from UT Austin and graduate work at the University of Southern California.
