Three Desert Fables - for solo oboe
The three movements tell of the symbiotic relationships found in the harsh desert environment, from Joshua Trees found in the Mojave Desert and the Yucca moth, to the Ocotillo and the Bee, and the chuckwalla and the rock. (JB 125)

Composed for Jennifer Stevenson during the composer's residency with the Vientos Trio, this piece tells the story of the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles and the extinct animals found in the ooze that roamed the area over 10,000 years ago.(JB 121)

Commissioned by the California Association of Professional Music Teachers for the February 2010 State Conference, this piece takes the listener through the life and adventures of a spider. Five movements about spinning webs, capturing prey, and starting the cycle all over again the next day. (JB 122)
Commissioned by the L.A. Musical Salon in 2009, this piece captures the beauty of the sea as inspired by the Pacific Ocean and trips to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California. (JB 120)

Commissioned by the Central4 Quartet of Los Angeles, this piece was premiered in March 2012 during the Long Beach, California Bach Festival. A five-movement work that draws its inspiration from Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, this work can be paired with the Bach or stand alone as the centerpiece of a concert.

The Woman with the Unfathomable Eyes for Narrator (man), flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano

Welcome to the gritty world of our Los Angeles detective in the 1940's as he takes on the case of the woman with the unfathomable eyes. Her sister's been kidnapped, and her husband has stolen the ransom money and disappeared. The detective sets out to find the husband and the money, blinded by the woman's beauty and her lies. It's only a matter of time before he finds out her true motives, but will it be too late?
Original text by Timothy Decker. This noir-style text makes a good work for staging either in a concert setting or as a dramatic monologue with music in th theater.

Double Concerto for Oboe and Bassoon with Wind Symphony
Duration approximately 19 minutes
This work tells the story of the Galaxy, from the spiral galaxy to a supermassive black hole, and the orion nebula. Scott Pool- bassoon premiered the work with Rogene Russell on oboe with the University of Texas at Arlington Wind Symphony under the direction of Doug Stotter in February 2013.
Instrumentation (one to a part): solo oboe, solo bassoon, piccolo, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 3 clarinets, bass clarinet, 2 bassoons, 2 alto saxophones, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, 3 trumpets, 4 horns, 2 trombones, euphonium, tuba, 3 percussionists.

The poetry by Edwin Arlington Robinson, offers a beautiful picture of evening settling on the hills, or of the quiet that comes at that moment just before dark falls completely over the land. As the choir sings of hope for the end of all wars, the oboe weaves in and out of the texture, creating a voice of the ages.
