From Five Frogs for woodwind quintet. This is the first movement of this six movement piece about frogs. This movement features the clarinet and its ability to 'leap' like a frog.

Chamber

Solo

Goldfish Songs for solo Flute/Alto Flute (8:00) 2008
Written for flutist Danielle Hundley of the new music ensemble Conundrum, these four movements look at four different types of fancy goldfish.  This original idea inspired by Danielle even features a movement about her own goldfish Bela!

In The City At Night for solo English horn (6:00) 2008
Written for oboist Ryan Zwahlen, this solo piece explores the quiet at dusk, the lights blinking on once dark has fallen, and the adventures at night in a city.

Chansons de la Nature pour la Clarinette for solo Bb clarinet (10:00) 2003
Seven movements based on nature and images from Aesop's Fables.

Pleistocene Epoch: The Great Ice Age for solo Bass Clarinet (8:00) 2009
Written during the composer's residency with the Vientos Trio, this four-movement piece for solo bass clarinet gurgles and oozes with the stories of the extinct animals found in the pits from over 10,000 years ago.

Duet

On Holt Avenue for oboe and piano (9:30) 2006
Four movements inspired by life 'on holt avenue' including morning coffee, the lemon tree, a mockingbird, and daisies.

E la don don, Verges Maria for oboe and cello (or bassoon)  (2:00) 2008
Based on a 16th-century Catalonian carol, this piece is featured on the Definiens Project 2008 holiday CD Holidays with the Definiens Project 2.  Can be performed with cello or bassoon.

Trio

Commissioned by the California Association of Professional Music Teachers for the 2010 State Conference, this five-movement work tells the story of the life of a spider, from spinning webs to catching and eating bugs!

Composed for the Vientos Trio during 2008-2009 composer residency.

The Wildflower Trio for oboe, bassoon, and piano (18 minutes) 2004
Commissioned by the University of Texas at Austin to celebrate the life and work of
Lady Bird Johnson. Inspired by wildflowers and the poetry of Bette Woolsey Castro.
Recorded on the Longhorn Music label - 2008 with Rebecca Henderson-oboe, Kristin Jensen-bassoon, and Robert Freeman-piano.

Quartet

Sea Quartet for oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and piano (5:30)  2009
Commissioned by the L.A. Musical Salon for the composer's residency with the Vientos Trio, this one-movement work was premiered in March 2009 with guest pianist Rose Chen.
Inspired by the sea and by many visits to the Aquarium of The Pacific, this piece explores the sea's playfulness, beauty, and power.

This delightful woodwind quintet gives each player the chance to portray part of a frog's daily routine, from swimming to lazing on the lily pad to catching bugs. Five Frogs is light-hearted but challenging and musically rich.

Libretto by Tim Decker.  Written for soprano Malesha Jessie as part of a work-in-progress one-woman opera, this piece explores the love a mother for daughter, and her hope for a better life.

The Lament for soprano and piano (9:00) 2008
Libretto by Tim Decker. Written for soprano Malesha Jessie as part of a work-in-progress one-woman opera. this piece deals with the grief of a husband's death and the crossing of Native American and Christian cultures.

This piece weaves together 10 Japanese poems translated by Kenneth Rexroth to tell the story one woman's wait for her lover, her grief, and the delicate human heart.  Written for soprano Keiko Clark (www.keikoclark.com)

Commissioned by the Young New Yorkers' Chorus under the direction of Michael Kerschner, this piece speaks of ecstatic joy of being overwhelmed by something too beautiful.

Make Music Sweet for SATB choir and piano (8:30) 2008/2009

This three-movement work takes three of Joyce's poems that speak of love and nature.  Winner of the Choral Horizons workshop sponsored by The Singers - Minnesota Choral Artists under the direction of Matthew Culloton and Graphite Publishing.

Dancing Naked at the Edge of Dawn for SSAA choir, percussion, and piano (9:30) 2008
Poetry by Kris Radish.  Commissioned by Sistrum, Lansing, Michigan's Women's Choir under the direction of Meredith Bowen.  To be premiered in May 2009. 
Three movement: I. the dark line  II. morning prayer  III. Dancing Naked at the Edge of Dawn.
The lovely poetry by Ms. Radish is simple and gorgeous, exploring dark to light, love and possibility, and the ability to achieve anything.

At Night
for SATB a cappella (5:00) 2008
Amy Lowell’s poem At Night speaks of the wind singing through the trees and the excitement of the wild wind. When the voices come together to exclaim “And my mind, O Star! is filled with your white light,” we feel the true wonder of a hot July night and the freedom to enjoy the onward sweeping wind.
This piece was selected as the recipient of the 2008 Sorel Medallion and was premiered in Zankel Hall in Carnegie Hall by Voices of Ascension under the direction of Dennis Keene on October 29th. It received second place during the Finals Concert.

Vive la Liberté! for two-part treble chorus, flute, percussion, and piano (4:30) 2007
This piece was commissioned by the Lafayette 250 Committee of Arrangements in honor of the Marquis de Lafayette on the occasion of his 250th birth anniversary in Feyetteville, North Carolina.

The Dark HIlls for SATB choir, oboe, and piano (3:30)
The poetry of The Dark Hills by Edwin Arlington Robinson offers a beautiful picture of evening settling on the hills, or of the quiet that comes at that moment just before dark falls completely over the land... Published by Boosey & Hawkes.
